South-East London students jump for joy in celebration of A-level success

Students across South-east London celebrated their A-level results.
At Prendergast Sixth Form College in Lewisham, Amar John achieved A* maths, A chemistry and A physics.
He has been accepted to study mechanical engineering at the University of Southampton.
The 18-year-old said: “I’m over the moon. I remember walking out of my physics exam thinking “That’s it – I’m in clearing” so to get these results is fantastic.
I’m really happy.” Lily Hutton, another pupil at the Adelaide Avenue school, achieved A* maths, A further maths, A physics and A French.
The 17-year-old is going to Warwick University to study maths.
Paula Ledger, headteacher of Prendergast School, said: “Once again, our remarkable students have made us so proud with their results.
“We have had an important increase in the number of students achieving A* to E grades and a 14 per cent increase in the number of students achieving 3 A-levels.”
Across the borough at Sedgehill School students and staff were also toasting success.
In their A-level results 35 per cent of pupils received A* – A, 51 per cent received A* – B and 67 per cent received A* – C.
Top performers IIja Lomkov and Mahdi Mohammed were delighted.
Ilja was awarded five A’s in mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics and Russian and is going on to read biomedical science at King’s College, London.
Mahdi as awarded three As in mathematics, Chemistry and Physics and is going on to study computer science at King’s College, London.
Clare Cassidy, Headteacher of Sedgehill School, said: “I would like to congratulate each of our sixth formers on their success.
“There are some excellent individual results which are testament to the hard work and dedication of the students.”
In Greenwich, there was an increase across the borough in the number of A-level students achieving A* – B marks, according to the council.
At least six pupils accepted offers from Oxford University or Cambridge University.
At Thomas Tallis school (pictured above) in Kidbrooke Park Road, 12 pupils achieved straight As.
