South Norwood youngsters (and staff!) embrace the spirit of World Book Day

Pupils and staff at South Norwood Primary School got into the spirit of World Book Day on Friday by dressing up as their favourite book characters.

Staff at the Crowther Road primary, which is part of The Pioneer Academy, also held a fashion show to parade their outfits during a whole school assembly which heralded a day of celebrations for the literary awareness day.

The fun included inviting parents in to listen to phonics lessons from the youngest pupils and to a crafts and storytelling workshop.

Not to be outdone, teachers and school staff get in on the act, because books are not just for children

Year 1 also visited a Waterstones bookshop to select their World Book Day book with their free £1 voucher and met an author who read one of their stories aloud to them.

Headteacher Melody Berthoud said: “At South Norwood Primary, we are passionate about reading.

As cute as you like – another young pupil determined to make the most of the World Book Day experience at school

World Book Day is a great opportunity to raise the profile of reading for pleasure from a young age and to share the enjoyment that a good book can bring.

“Our whole community had a wonderful day and we hope the children were inspired to read even more at school and at home.”
