Man stabbed to death and 16-year-old arrested at illegal rave in industrial unit next to Millwall F.C

A man has been stabbed to death and 16-year-old arrested at an illegal rave in South Bermondsey next to Millwall Football Club stadium.

Police were called at around 11.50pm on Saturday to reports of a male stabbed inside an industrial unit in Stockholm Road where an unlicensed music event had been taking place.

Officers and paramedics found an unidentified male suffering stab injuries and, despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the victim’s identity and contact his family.

A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

A 16-year-old male was also found at the location suffering head injuries.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

He has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The warehouse had vacated last week by Hillsong Church’s Bermondsey campus. Security guards alerted the site’s owners on Friday that it had been occupied by squatters, but since seizing land is a civil, not a criminal matter, police were powerless to do anything. The plot has now been emptied by cops, who are still combing the warehouse for clues on the killing.

Michael, 69, was driving past the scene on Sunday. He said: “I was driving along Ilderton road at around 8pm last night, intending to turn down Surrey Canal road but it was closed by the police.

“I stopped at the traffic lights, where Stockholm road meets Ilderton road, and I saw the police doing a fingertip search of the bushes and undergrowth on the corner of Surrey Canel road.

“They were wearing disposable overalls, face masks and gloves and there was at least 20 officers.

“There was a lot of activity around the area and the roads were taped off.”

An investigation has been launched led by detectives from Specialist Crime (Homicide).

Detectives are urging anyone who had attended a music event in South Bermondsey on Saturday night to get in touch after a male was fatally stabbed.

Anyone who had been in attendance at the event is urged to call 101, and quote ref CAD 8848/26JUN. Detectives also need to hear from any other witnesses or anyone else with information that may assist the investigation.
