Teenager cleared of attempted murder after stabbing on train

A 19-year-old man been cleared of attempted murder after he was filmed stabbing a man on board a moving train earlier this year.

Following a trial at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, a jury acquitted Rakeem Thomas of attempted murder, wounding with intent and affray after accepting his self-defence claim.

The stabbing took place on a train traveling between Shortlands and Beckenham, towards London Victoria, at around 4pm on March 27.

A video of the altercation was shared widely online, with passengers heard screaming at the attacker to stop as they watched on in horror.

Police said the victim had suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery.
