Thousands in Bexley can apply for support for basic essentials

More than 14,000 households in Bexley will soon be receiving a letter or email with details of supermarket vouchers available to them.

The vouchers are going to households that qualify for Bexley Council’s Council Tax Reduction Scheme.

They are for between £30 and £105, depending on the number of people in each household.

The vouchers provide an extra £758,000  to residents who may be in need to help with the cost of living.  The e-voucher will help meet the costs of food and other essentials.

Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Resources, Cllr David Leaf said: “We took the decision to distribute the funds from the Government’s Household Support Fund to households who qualify for the Council Tax Reduction Scheme, children eligible for free school meals and to provide grants for local charities.

The charities that have benefited include local food banks and local domestic abuse charity Solace.

“Our residents have had a difficult two years and we wanted to do all we can to make sure that the funds went directly to those who are most in need. With the rising costs of living impacting hardest on those with the lowest incomes, these vouchers will give some extra help to one in seven households in the Borough.

Make sure you act quickly when you receive your letters because you must claim your voucher before the cut-off date of 6 March.”

After March 8, the evouchers, it will no longer work.

The cash comes from the Government’s Household Support Fund
