Urgent appeal to find young girl last seen on a bus on New Year’s Eve

The Met have launched an urgent appeal to find a young girl who was thought to be vulnerable when last seen on a bus on New Year’s Eve.

On December 31, a bus driver spoke to a girl believed to be between eight and 10 years old who was on board a 181 bus and who she had concerns about.

The girl did not provide a name or any other details and got off the bus in Grove Park.

On 11 January a report was made to the police about the incident.

The girl is believed to be 5ft1in, with afro hair and was last seen wearing a long, black coat, black boots and a purple scarf.

A Met spokesman said: “Work has been under way since this report was received to try and identify the girl.

“This has included securing suitable CCTV of the girl, identifying and speaking to other passengers on the bus and liaising with Safer Schools Officers and relevant local authorities in the area to see if she could be identified.

“Today, as the child has not yet been identified, a decision was made to circulate images of her on social media.

“As the girl’s details are not know, the appeal has been generated using the information provided by witnesses and CCTV.”

“Officers will consider a number of factors before issuing a public appeal to trace a an unidentified  – when there is not one made, there is still a considerable amount of work being undertaken through other methods to try and locate the missing person safely.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting 23MIS001205
