What a dump! Trailer trash hits postal depot in Clapham
An abandoned lorry spilled tonnes of rubbish on to a side street.
It took five hours, seven Veolia cleaning staff and four vehicles to clean up the mess left by an abandoned truck beside a Royal Mail depot in Pensbury Place, Clapham.
The curtain sides had begun to tear, spilling 10 tonnes of builders’ waste, rubble and other debris on to the road and blocking its access.
Cllr Claire Holland, Lambeth cabinet member for environment, said: “This is an astonishing case, where the criminal has shown a complete disregard for local residents and businesses.
“It costs the council and its contractors Veolia a huge amount of time and money to clear up dumped waste – cash that could be much better spent elsewhere.
I’d encourage anybody with any information to share it with us so we can catch those responsible.”
The abandoned trailer is currently being investigated to identify the perpetrator. If you have any information regarding the trailer visit www.lambeth.gov.uk/ antisocial.
