Woman found dead in woods by Boxing Day walkers

A woman has been found dead in a wood by people out on a Boxing Day walk.

The walkers made the discovery at Oxleas Wood in Eltham on Monday afternoon, at around 2pm.

The Met said that so far the death was not being treated as suspicious. The woman is yet to be identified formally but officers believe they know who she is and have informed her next of kin.

A Met Police spokesman said: “On Monday December 26, police were called at 2pm to Oxleas Wood, SE9, after the body of a woman was discovered by people out walking.

“Though formal identification awaits, police believe they know who the deceased is and have informed next of kin.

“The death is being treated as unexpected, though initial enquiries suggest it is not suspicious. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.”
