A woman has been taken to hospital after she was hit by a fire engine.

Emergency services said that at around 11.30am this morning, a woman was hit by a fire engine in London Road, Thornton Heath, at the junction with Brigstock Road.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed the fire engine was responding to an emergency at the time of the collision. The woman’s condition is unknown at this time.

An LFB spokeswoman said: “The pedestrian was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service and has now been taken to hospital by London’s Air Ambulance.

“The circumstances surrounding the collision are under investigation.”

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an incident response officer, two ambulance crews, and a medic in a fast-response car. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated a woman at the scene before taking her to hospital.”

A Met spokesman added: “There are road closures in place while emergency services deal [with the incident].”
