Woman in her 20s falls from balcony on to elderly shopper

Two women were taken to hospital after a woman in her 20s fell from a balcony on to an elderly shopper in a busy shopping centre yesterday afternoon.

At around 2.15pm the Met and the London Ambulance service (LAS) were called after the woman fell at The Glades shopping centre in High Street, Bromley.

Another woman, aged in her 80s, was found with injuries caused as a result of the fall.

A spokesman for the LAS said: “We sent three ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, a volunteer emergency responder team and an incident response officer to the scene.

“We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance, which consisted of a paramedic and a doctor in a car.

“The first paramedic arrived in around three minutes.”

The woman who fell from the balcony was taken to a major trauma centre as a priority. The woman in her 80s was treated at the scene and also taken to hospital.

Police officers also attended the scene and have confirmed that the condition of both women is not believed to be life threatening.

A spokesman for the Met said: “Inquiries into the circumstances of the incident continue.”
