Woman in 50s dies after being stabbed on Easter Sunday

A woman in her 50s has died after being stabbed to death in the early hours of Easter Sunday.

Police and London Ambulance Service were called just before 2.30am on Sunday to a seriously injured woman inside a block of flats in Ravine Grove in Greenwich.

Officers found a woman suffering stab injuries and despite the efforts of paramedics, the woman died around an hour later.

A post-mortem examination that took place yesterday at Greenwich Mortuary gave cause of death as a stab wound.

Vasile Bratu, 39, of no fixed address was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and charged today.

He will appear in custody at Bexley Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command investigate.

Bratu and the woman are believed to have been known to each other.

Officers continue to work to inform all next of kin but a formal identification awaits.
