Young people running to raise money for important Bromley project

By Kit Heren

Young people with special needs are taking part in a charity run to raise money for the group that supports them this weekend.

A group of young people with complex medical and special educational needs at the Maypole Project in Bromley, south London, are taking part in London’s biggest Christmas-themed run on 8 December.

The runners hope to raise £900 for the Maypole Project – and are already well on the way to achieving their goal.

Phil Price, a spokesperson for the Maypole Project, said: “This is huge for us. It’s the first time that we’ve had our young people challenging themselves in this way to give something back. We’ve never had a group of young people say to us that they want to fundraise for us.

“I’m really proud to see how this has made our young people step up and grow.”

The Maypole Project provides emotional and psychological support to children and young people with special needs in south-east London.

Lily, a young person at the Maypole Project, said that being a part of the club has empowered her to “enjoy conversations… and feel like a young adult with her own opinions.”

The Santa run will take place in Victoria Park, east Lodnon.
