Palace keen on keeper loan exit

Crystal Palace want to loan out Joe Whitworth.

The Eagles want Whitworth to build his way through the leagues in order to gain vital first-team experience at the start of his career.

The 19-year-old became the club’s youngest Premier League goalkeeper when he was handed the starting role in the 1-0 defeat at Brighton in March with Vicente Guaita and Sam Johnstone both missing through injury.

Whitworth was the youngest stopper to appear in a Premier League match since Ben Alnwick in December 2005.

The academy graduate made two smart saves to keep the Eagles in the game at The Amex and started the following Premier League clash away at then league leaders Arsenal, with managerless Palace falling to a 4-1 defeat.

The stopper was on the books at AFC Wimbledon’s academy before joining the South Londoners.

He penned his first professional deal with the Eagles in 2021 and signed a five-year contract extension in January.
