Police bottled and six people hospitalised after brawl at hotel in Leicester Square
A top London hotel could lose its licence after Met Police officers were allegedly attacked with bottles as they tried to break up a huge brawl.
Police officers and security workers were badly hurt in the huge fight at W Hotel, Leicester Square on July 10.
The luxury five-star hotel in Wardour Street, Soho, was hosting an event at the time of the brawl. It is alleged that some guests took drugs in the bathroom and that “many” people turned up wearing ankle tags.
The Met Police claimed six people were hospitalised, including an officer, and added that an enquiry into the incident was ongoing.
It said they saw “large scale disorder” with “a male punching others with a belt wrapped round his fist”.
A report by a Met Police constable said two officers first went to the scene at around 10.30pm, believing 30 or 40 people were fighting in the hotel bar.
He also said five door supervisors were hurt so badly they had to go to hospital, with injuries including a “chipped tooth”, as well as cuts and bumps to the head. Two police officers were also injured in the brawl.
A spokesman for the Met siad: “At approximately 10.30pm on Sunday, July 10, officers were called to a hotel in Wardour Street, Westminster, to reports of a fight. Officers attended and found a large group of people fighting.
“Police engaged with the crowd and stopped the fight. In the process an officer had their arm cut, while another had a bottle thrown at them. One officer had to go to hospital.
“Five members of security staff also received injuries and had to attend hospital. Three men were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and violent disorder. All three have been released under investigation. Enquiries continue.”
A spokeswoman for W London said: “We are currently taking part in a licence review process with Westminster council. The safety of our guests is at the heart of everything we do, and we will not allow our guests or staff to be threatened or assaulted on a night out.”
