Charlton Athletic boss clears up why Crystal Palace loanee was subbed off against Portsmouth
Charlton Athletic manager Ben Garner has cleared up why Jesurun Rak-Sakyi came off in the second half of Monday night’s 3-0 win over Portsmouth.
And the Addicks chief has also revealed that one of his first-teamers will miss tomorrow’s League One fixture at Shrewsbury Town.
Rak-Sakyi, 20, is on a season-long loan from Crystal Palace but came off in the 71st minute.
“Jes is fine,” said Garner. “It was literally that we were 3-0 up and it was an opportunity to give him a little bit of a rest ahead of Saturday.
“We have got one minor injury that will keep a player out for tomorrow but hopefully not much longer than that. It is going to be days rather than weeks or months.”
Charlton go looking for their third straight win against a Shrewsbury side who are two places above them in the table. The hosts have taken nine points from the last 12 available.
“We’ve spoken about hunting down the teams that are above us and we’ve got that opportunity against Shrewsbury,” said Garner. “They have a really experienced manager in Steve [Cotterill] and are in very good form.
“They are very, very well organised and set up with a deep defensive block which makes it hard for teams to go through them and they look to counter and give teams problems off that shape.”
