AFC Wimbledon confirm EFL Cup clash vs Newcastle has been postponed

AFC Wimbledon have confirmed that tomorrow night’s EFL Cup clash vs Premier League side Newcastle United has been postponed due to extensive flooding.

Wimbledon released a statement on Monday morning that read: “We regret to inform supporters that due to extensive overnight flooding of the River Wandle and surrounding areas, including at our Cherry Red Records Stadium, Tuesday night’s EFL Cup third-round fixture against Newcastle United has been postponed.

“More information will follow in due course regarding fixture rearrangement. The stadium is closed until further notice.”

The Dons beat Premier League side Ipswich in the previous round to set up another exciting cup tie at Plough Lane.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was set to hold a press conference this morning ahead of the trip to SW19, but that was cancelled after videos surfaced on social media which showed the extent of the flooding at the stadium.

Wimbledon are scheduled to host Accrington Stanley in League Two on Saturday.
