AFC Wimbledon head coach explains reason for striker recall

Mark Robinson has outlined why AFC Wimbledon have recalled striker Aaron Cosgrave from his loan spell at Dover Athletic early.

Cosgrave made 22 appearances and was Dover’s top goalscorer with four goals during his time at the club.

Dover confirmed that Cosgrave, 22, had been recalled with immediate effect on Thursday, with Andy Hessenthaler’s side currently situated at the bottom of the National League on minus-eight points after they were deducted points for failing to fulfil fixtures last season.

Cosgrave joined the Dons in the summer after impressing during a trial period with the club.

Speaking to the South London Press, Robinson said: “Aaron has just been playing really well, and he has been playing in really difficult circumstances.

“We have been watching him a lot, and his performances have genuinely been high in a team where he is obviously getting very few chances, but he has still managed to score goals and still managed to put in good performances.

“His attitude has been absolutely first rate – he’s never come in and moaned. You look for that robustness and resilience – people who just get on with things.

“He has got a lot of attributes that I like anyway, so it just makes sense to bring him in, and hopefully he will get an opportunity.”
