AFC Wimbledon launch new three-episode documentary

AFC Wimbledon have released a three-episode mini-series titled “Fan-Owned Football”, offering viewers around the world unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the club.

The first episode, which began filming in February, launched on April 11, with the remaining episodes slated for release in May.

Produced in collaboration with acclaimed author and Wimbledon supporter John Green and the Emmy Award-winning Mike Tollin Productions (MTP), whose relationship with the Dons began in 2016 when they released a short film about the club on VICE Sports, “Fan-Owned Football” underscores the club’s commitment to deepening its connection with its passionate members, as well as its ambition to reach a new generation of fans.

“We very much hope that this mini-series will show viewers what makes our club special, and that it will ignite a new affection for Wimbledon. The series touches on the club’s formation and rapid rise through the leagues, and how fan ownership of a football club works in practice,” said managing director James Woodroof.

“Viewers will hear from players, staff, volunteers and fans as we all unite behind our manager Johnnie Jackson and his squad’s push for promotion to League One.

“We believe that we have a unique story, and we are grateful for the support of an extremely talented and passionate production crew in helping share it. Everyone involved in this project was united in the view that this series should be available free to air to help reach as many people as possible.

“We are eternally grateful for the ongoing support of John Green and Mike Tollin Productions who have raised funding and produced the series, which included a significant donation to AFC Wimbledon.”

Mike Tollin, Chairman of MTP, said: “It’s an honor to partner with AFC Wimbledon on this groundbreaking series. We’re grateful for the opportunity to help share the incredible stories of community and resilience that define this club. We believe audiences around the globe will see what we see, and connect deeply with this truly unique story.”

John Green added: “I’m delighted to be part of bringing AFC Wimbledon’s remarkable story to a wider audience. To know AFC Wimbledon is to love them. ‘Fan-Owned Football’ captures the heart and soul of the club and its community of supporters, which are one and the same. I’m excited and grateful that AFC Wimbledon has allowed us to share their journey with fans everywhere.”
