AFC Wimbledon poised to appoint former Charlton manager Johnnie Jackson as their new boss

Johnnie Jackson is set to be named as AFC Wimbledon’s new manager.

The 39-year-old was sacked by Charlton at the end of the season despite inheriting a side that were in the bottom three in League One and moving them comfortably clear of the drop zone.

And Jackson is set for a quick return to management with the Dons, who were relegated to League Two after a dreadful run of form.

Wimbledon parted company with head coach Mark Robinson at the end of March after a 21-game winless spell. And successor Mark Bowen was unable to collect a victory in the run-in with their relegation confirmed on the final day of the campaign.

Jackson replaced Nigel Adkins in October – initially on a caretaker basis. He kicked off with an impressive 1-0 victory at Sunderland. They won four of their opening five league matches, only dropping points at home with a 1-1 draw against Rotherham United.

Charlton’s slump in form coincided with a striker shortage that saw Conor Washington, Jayden Stockley and Chuks Aneke all sidelined.

Jackson has stayed silent since his departure from the Addicks.

Charlton owner Thomas Sandgaard opted to make a change and the level of compensation due to be paid dropped significantly at the end of the season after the club’s former captain was unable to achieve an ambitious eighth-placed finish.
