AFC Wimbledon suffer striker setback

Kwesi Appiah has suffered a setback in his return from a hamstring injury – adding an extra couple of weeks onto his return date for AFC Wimbledon.

“Losing Kwesi has been a big miss,” said Dons manager Neal Ardley. “It looks like he has had a little setback with the hamstring and might be a couple of weeks longer than we’d initially hoped.

“It is a blow. He is an important player for us. It doesn’t help.

“If we weren’t creating chances and our stats were low than we’d have real cause for concern.

“In terms of our budget and where we are in the league, we are not massively underachieving. But because we have not scored enough goals and not looked like scoring every week it feels a little bit like the world is on our shoulders.”

Wimbledon had produced back-to-back wins against Northampton and Rotherham United before Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Plymouth.

“We had a really good week. If we’d started on a low and ended with two wins then everyone would have been buoyant.

“We are working really hard to turn the corner.”
