Andy Woodman: ‘Former Preston midfielder let Bromley down with ridiculous red card in Carlisle draw’

Andy Woodman called Lewis Leigh’s sending off “stupid” as the midfielder was issued with a straight red card for violent conduct in Bromley’s 1-1 draw with Carlisle on Saturday.

Bromley took the lead in the 54th minute when Crystal Palace loanee Danny Imray was fouled inside the penalty area and Michael Cheek slotted away his eighth League Two goal of the season.

The Ravens were reduced to 10 men with eight minutes left to play when substitute Leigh was sent off for an elbow on former Charlton defender Sam Lavelle.

Leigh, who impressed on loan last season in the National League, was signed in the summer on a permanent deal from Preston.

That allowed the visitors to equalise in the 92nd minute when Dan Adu-Adjei received the ball from a long throw, spun inside the area and fired beyond Grant Smith.

It denied Bromley all three points and their second win from their last four League Two outings.

“One of our players let us down today,” said Woodman.

“We can’t pull any punches about it. It was a stupid sending off and it made it hard for us.

“You’re then up against it with a team throwing everything at you and trying to get an equaliser.

“There’s no good me dressing it up – it was a ridiculous red card.

“He’s disappointed, but it’s not after that where I want disappointment, I want him to be disciplined on the pitch.

“He’s a young boy and he’s probably got a little bit of adrenaline running through him.

“He’s done a stupid thing – he will regret that for sure.”
