Barnsley boss paying maximum respect to Charlton Athletic ahead of Oakwell encounter

Michael Duff has warned his Barnsley side that they “will have to be bang at it” to beat Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

The Addicks travel to Yorkshire with the South London club currently 14th in League One.

But Duff reckons the standings can’t be judged at this point of the season.

Duff told BBC Sheffield: “We will have to be bang at it, as you have to be every week in this league, and you have to be clinical.

“They have drawn too many games for their liking. They’re a big club, they’ve had a turnaround in terms of a new manager with new ideas.

“Last year they played a back three, they’ve pretty much been a 4-3-3 and Ben [Garner] has his own ideas on how the game should be played.

“They will be expansive, they will be possession-based – but with players that can definitely hurt you.

“The league table isn’t even a nonsense, because my wife showed me a picture from Saturday and said ‘you’re seventh’ and it was because the app she was using hadn’t updated properly and Wycombe, who were beating Derby, were sixth. Now Wycombe are 16th now I think, because Derby turned the game around.

“It’s very early days. They are well-supported and an ex-Premier League club who were established at that level. So we are under no illusions that we’re in a position now that we can just take it easy.”
