Battersea middleweight Denzel Bentley ready for title chances

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Denzel Bentley collected his ninth inside-the-distance win as he knocked out Kelcie Ball in 72 seconds on Frank Warren’s Royal Albert Hall show.

The Battersea middleweight has a perfect 11-fight ledger and has now got five first-round stoppages.
Ball’s only other defeat coming into the fight was an 89 second KO to Ryan Kelly in 2018. He drops to 10-2.

Bentley told iFL TV: “I knew I had to be on my A game because he had only lost one. From what I saw in that fight he got caught cold.

“I wanted to make a statement.

“I’m 100 per cent ready for the British title. I knock people out but I’ve also got skills, so if I can’t do that then I go to my boxing.

“If there are titles on the line we can make those fights all day? Why not? We can all make money and win titles.

“I’ll fight once more this year and then push on for some real titles next year, if I don’t get one before that.”

Sydenham heavyweight Jonathan Palata moved to 7-0 in the paid ranks but went the distance on the same show against Chris Healey (8-5).

The 30-year-old won 58-56 on referee Kieran McCann’s scorecard.

Lancashire’s Healey has lost five of his last seven bouts.
