Hunter/Mertens v Bains/Lumsden 6-2, 6-1

British duo Naiktha Bains and Maia Lumsden were dumped out of Wimbledon, at the quarter-final stage, by Australian Storm Hunter and Elise Mertens from Belgium in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.

It was a limp exit for the pair who never got their act together either as a individual or as a doubles’ act.

Loss of serve in the opening game by Bains, ultimately set the tone for the game.

No aces were recorded by the defeated pair and not a break point won either.

With just one winner between them, it was no surprise that the match ended as it did.

Not even the briefest of break in play for the light dusting of sprinkling rain could halt the inevitable.
