Charlton Athletic boss allays any injury fears after defender subbed off

Tennai Watson’s withdrawal from Charlton Athletic’s 0-0 draw against Stevenage was not due to major injury.

The summer signing, 27, came off in the 73rd minute with Addicks manager Nathan Jones opting to bring on Lucas Ness.

Watson has made 39 appearances in all competitions for the South Londoners.

He arrived at the end of the summer transfer window on a free transfer after rejecting new terms at Milton Keynes.

“He’s just tight,” said Jones, when asked about Watson coming off. “He gives us everything. We haven’t really had much cover there because Kayne Ramsay has been out and so on.

“(Nathan) Asiimwe was away. It’s important now we rest up and get everyone back. Kayne is back now. Asiimwe is back from international duty now, so we have a bit of cover.

“We have got two home games coming up where we want to be right at it. Two tough games, different sides, but an opportunity for us to pick up some more points.”
