Charlton Athletic boss explains Omar Bogle’s switch to Doncaster Rovers

Charlton Athletic striker Omar Bogle has joined League One rivals Doncaster Rovers.

The 27-year-old has signed an 18-month deal with the Yorkshire club.

Bogle had not made the Addicks’ matchday squad for the last two League One matches.

The former Cardiff and Grimsby striker had become third-choice targetman after Jayden Stockley was brought in on loan from Preston North End to provide another option and manage Chuks Aneke’s workload.

“Obviously bringing in Stockley, it made it difficult for Omar to be involved,” Charlton manager Lee Bowyer told the South London Press. “He worked hard for the team but I just think to have the opportunity to bring in someone like Stockley, we had to go down that line.

“This is what happens in football – you come, you go. Omar has helped us but now it is probably the right thing – if he wants to play football – to move on.

“Doncaster are a good club with a good manager. It’s a good move for him.”

Bowyer has confirmed he is still working hard to make signings before Monday’s 11pm deadline.

“Nothing really changes. We’re still looking, still trying to change the squad. We’ve brought in Liam [Millar], Ronnie [Schwartz] and Jayden – every single one has made us a bit stronger. We want to strengthen other areas as well. We are limited what we have [under the salary cap] and what is out there.

“If someone comes up – like the Jayden situation – we’ll jump on it and try our best to bring them in. We are trying to make things happen. Every day different players become available and that will continue until the end of the window.”
