Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer reacts to West Bromwich Albion link
Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has revealed he only found out he had been linked to West Bromwich Albion when he got into work this morning.
A national newspaper claimed last night that the Addicks chief was in the thoughts of the Baggies if they dispensed with the services of Slaven Bilic.
West Brom are 18th in the Premier League after a 2-0 loss to Fulham on Monday.
Bowyer told the South London Press: “I first heard of it was when I saw Ged [Roddy] in work this morning – he mentioned it. I wasn’t even aware of it.
“I think you know me now, I don’t look at social media or the papers. I keep away from all that.
“It’s nice to be recognised. It happened a few times last season and the season before. If you do well then people recognise you do well.”
Charlton’s ownership situation is now settled after the carnage of East Street Investments.
Thomas Sandgaard’s takeover has seen the EFL transfer embargo lifted and the Addicks are third in the League One table and unbeaten in seven games – six of those wins.
“I’ve got an owner now that is interested and wants to move the club forward and is moving the club forward. That – as a manager – is what you want.
“I want to be successful. I’ve never once denied that. I want to be successful and be as high as I can and challenge myself.
“I have an owner who wants to move in the same direction. I’m happy here.”
