Charlton Athletic boss not prepared to take any risks with key performer

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has explained that he was not prepared to take any risks with Lloyd Jones after leaving the centre-back out of Tuesday night’s 2-1 win at Mansfield.

The defender has been a star performer for the Addicks this season but did not make the journey up to Field Mill.

Portsmouth loanee Tom McIntyre started in Charlton’s back three and performed well.

“He just had a little bit of a tight calf so we have just got to be careful with him,” said Addicks boss Jones. “He didn’t travel today.

“We have a lot of big games and we can’t risk anything on the back of just one game. That is why we back the squad and utilise the squad.”

Jones, 29, recently signed a new contract with the Addicks to replace the one which was due to expire at the end of June.

He has made 35 appearances in all competitions this season and scored twice.
