Charlton Athletic boss pleased to have strengthened spine of his side
Nigel Adkins believes Charlton Athletic have made two key signings in the shape of Craig MacGillivray and Jayden Stockley.
The Addicks have snapped up keeper MacGillivray on a free transfer after his release by Portsmouth and paid Preston North End an undisclosed fee for centre-forward Stockley.
“The two ends of the pitch are very important,” Adkins told the South London Press last week. “You’ve got to keep them out at one end and stick it in down the other.
“We talk about Jayden Stockley and anyone in the league would’ve wanted him. Craig is top drawer. You need to get the spine of the team right. We’ve got a very good goalkeeper and a very good centre-forward.
“I wanted to keep Ben Amos, I said that right from the very beginning – but once it became clear that wasn’t going to happen then I was delighted to bring Craig in.
“He is a very, very good goalkeeper and a great personality. He has settled in so well.
“We acted very quickly. Ben Amos, I can’t speak highly enough of him. I really like him. He’ll be a good acquistion for Wigan. But from our point of view, we’re delighted we got Craig on board.
“He’s a really good personality and a good goalkeeper.”
