Charlton Athletic boss Robinson: We were lucky not to be further behind against Rochdale

Karl Robinson admitted his Charlton Athletic side were lucky not to have a bigger salvage job as they came from behind to beat Rochdale 2-1 at The Valley.

Jake Forster-Caskey’s double earned the points for the Addicks – a fifth win in a nine-match unbeaten run in League One.

But Rochdale, who took the lead through Matthew Gillam, had chances to be further ahead before Forster-Caskey levelled before the interval.

Robinson said: “The could have been 2-0 up easy, maybe even 3-0. Keith [Hill] goes in my top three managers in my LMA vote most years with what he does at that football club and financially where they are.

“He [Forster-Caskey] has got to get that [scoring goals] into his game. He has got to get double figures.

“Bow [Lee Bowyer] thinks he will.

“We’d love to win 4-1 or 5-1 and enjoy a cup of tea. We don’t put games to bed, it keeps the opposition in reach.”

Ben Reeves came off at half-time with a tight hamstring and it could deplete Robinson’s options for Saturday’s trip to Scunthorpe with Tariqe Fosu (quad) set to be absent for up to five weeks.

“The bonus – every cloud – is that he [Fosu] is going to come back fresh,” said Robinson. “Those players who have not been playing, and he has born the brunt of it – have got to do their job. That’s what the squad is about.”
