Charlton Athletic boss to make scouting visit to check out Doncaster Rovers
Nigel Adkins is set to use Charlton’s free weekend by taking the chance to watch Doncaster Rovers, their next opponents.
The Addicks dropped to eighth in the League One standings after Oxford United’s 2-1 home win over Lincoln City last night.
Charlton go to Doncaster on Friday. Rovers are fifth, one point ahead of the South Londoners, but have three matches in hand.
Adkins posted his daily video message on his Twitter account today. He said: “Our league table will fluctuate and change, we can’t do anything about that. Control the controllables, is a big thing I’ve always said.
“Today I’m going to travel to MK and watch them against Doncaster Rovers, managed by Andy Butler – one of my former players at Scunthorpe United. They are our next opposition on Easter Friday, so can we do as much research on them as possible? Knowing ourselves, but seeing how we can go and play against them as well.
“It also gives me the chance to spend a bit more time with the owner Thomas [Sandgaard], before he flies back to America. It has been invaluable spending some time with him. We had a long, long Zoom call yesterday which was really good. Spending time listening to his vision and how we can put the building blocks in place.
“I’ve enjoyed it and I’m sure he has as well.”
Adkins took the time to praise Chris Gunter, who is set to win his 100th cap for Wales this evening.
“You are a fantastic professional and should be very proud of yourself. Enjoy the moment, it is very special. We’re all very proud of you and that achievement.”
