Charlton Athletic could look a lot stronger for AFC Wimbledon match – after game postponed for second time

Charlton Athletic’s trip to AFC Wimbledon next week has been postponed for a second time.

The two clubs were due to meet on Boxing Day but the fixture was re-arranged due to Covid cases in the Addicks’ playing squad.

And now the match will get a third date with Charlton able to postpone again due to Chris Gunter’s call-up to the Wales squad for their World Cup qualifier against Austria.

The Addicks only needed one international call-up – instead of the normal three – due to the fixture not taking place when originally scheduled.

Conor Washington is on standby for Northern Ireland’s matches against Luxembourg and Hungary and could well be called up after recently returning from a hamstring injury.

Charlton only have two fit senior strikers available – Washington and Jayden Stockley – so the fact that the trip to Plough Lane has been shunted back increases the likelihood that Chuks Aneke, Ryan Inniss or Jake Forster-Caskey – due to play at least 45 minutes for the U23s today – could be available when it does take place.

“Meanwhile, the fixture against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, March 26 is currently still set to go ahead with the usual three international call-ups required for a postponement,” said Charlton in a statement on their official website.
