Charlton Athletic defender’s displays aiding his push for new contract
Terell Thomas is not doing his chances of landing a new Charlton Athletic deal any harm.
The 28-year-old centre-back has started the Addicks last 11 League One matches, including captaining them in the 2-1 victory at Derby last month.
Thomas is a free agent at the end of June. He has made 36 appearances in all competitions this season.
“Look, he is playing week in and week out for me – so he must be doing something right,” Charlton manager Nathan Jones told the South London Press.
“A lot of people say when they come in that it is a clean slate but in the back of their mind they think ‘ah, he’s got to play, he’s got to play, he’s got to play and he has got to play’. I didn’t. I came in and said we were going to play a certain way – you can really want to buy into everything we do and develop. We’ll pick a team from there.
“Some big players didn’t start in early games and some players are playing really well. He is one that is doing fantastically well.
“Whatever has gone on prior to me coming in doesn’t concern me. He has got real competition and three centre-halves not in the starting 11 all chomping at the bit in Lloyd (Jones), Hec (Michael Hector) and Nessy (Lucas Ness). So the ones in the team have to play well and defend well – he has.”
