Charlton Athletic in market for a striker signing – with duo both set to miss start of League One campaign

Charlton Athletic will look to further add to their striking options in this transfer window.

The Addicks signed Cheltenham forward Alfie May at the end of last week.

But the League One club will also start the new season without Miles Leaburn (ankle) and Chuks Aneke (calf).

Asked if those injury setbacks would mean that bringing in another striker was still a focus, Holden told the South London Press: “Yeah, but I think we’re always looking anyway. Whether that kind of fast tracks things….we’re in for some good targets. We need to fit different types of profile into the team, to give us different types of threats for opposition. We’ll keep working.

“Miles will miss the start of the season, that’s obviously disappointing. But he went to see a specialist yesterday (Friday) and he doesn’t need an operation – which is a positive.

“We’ll work hard with him. make sure he’s ready and strong to come back. We’ll make sure he uses the time as wisely as he can. Physically he can get in the gym and do even more work. We’ll keep him in the group, in terms of team meetings, so that he feels a part of it.

“We’re not going to rush him, certainly. The most important thing is we get him back fit and keep him fit. It’s disappointing for him but it is the kind of adversity we have to deal with.

“It was a poor challenge and unfortunately he has borne the brunt of it.”
