Charlton Athletic set for left-back loan capture

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Charlton Athletic are set to sign a left-back on loan today.

The Addicks – who landed Preston’s goalkeeper Chris Maxwell on loan earlier this week – have made signing the position a priority to strengthen in this window with Lewis Page still sidelined.

Bowyer said: “We’re very, very close.

“We have got someone in for their medical now. It then depends on the paperwork from the other club.”

The Addicks will then look to bring in another attacking player as their final piece of January business.

“We’ve started the ball rolling on that one,” said Bowyer. “We have just made the club aware that we are interested.

“They’ve said there is a possibility it could happen. If we bring this lad through the door it will be another great signing.

“I think all of the deals have been good. They all bring experience and make our squad stronger.

“You want competition for everybody. If we bring in another striker it is more competition for Karlan [Grant] and Lyle [Taylor].”
