Charlton Athletic set to be tested over desire to hold on to Dillon Phillips and Alfie Doughty
Charlton Athletic’s resolve to hold on to prize assets Dillon Phillips and Alfie Doughty is set to be tested in the next couple of weeks – with a number of clubs tracking the pair.
Winger Doughty, 20, was the subject of interest in the January transfer window from Fulham, who were ready to pay in the region of £2million for the blisteringly fast left winger.
And Phillips is coming off an excellent campaign for the Addicks which saw him win the club’s Player of the Season award.
The pair have less than 12 months to run on their contracts in SE7.
The South London Press understands that neither will be signing new deals with uncertainty over the future of the South London club. Charlton suffered relegation to League One and East Street Investments, who have been in control of the purse strings since the start of January, have not seen their takeover approved by the EFL.
It means that the Addicks are under a registration embargo – effectively meaning they can only spend at the levels set by Roland Duchatelet before he agreed a deal for the football club at the start of 2020.
Doughty has attracted the attention of a host of clubs and is arguably the most valuable commodity in Charlton’s squad.
Addicks manager Lee Bowyer recently revealed to the South London Press that a contract offer had been made to Doughty. They took up an option in his deal to prevent him coming out of contract this summer.
Phillips will be a free agent after June 2021 and would be able to leave for nothing as he is over the age of 24.
