Charlton Athletic show support after their former defender Tom Lockyer suffers cardiac arrest
Charlton Athletic have sent their best wishes to their former defender Tom Lockyer after he suffered a cardiac arrest in Luton’s Premier League match against Bournemouth yesterday.
The centre-back was stretchered from the pitch in the second half and the fixture was abandoned.
“Our medical staff have confirmed that the Hatters captain suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch, but was responsive by the time he was taken off on the stretcher,” said Luton in a statement on social media platform X.
“He received further treatment inside the stadium, for which we once again thank the medical teams from both sides. Tom was transferred to hospital, where we can reassure supporters that he is stable and currently undergoing further tests with his family at his bedside.
“We would like to thank everyone for their support, concern and loving messages for Locks.”

Lockyer underwent heart surgery after collapsing in Luton’s Championship play-off final against Coventry City in May. He was cleared to resume playing the following month.
The 29-year-old, from Cardiff, signed for Charlton in June 2019 after his Bristol Rovers contract expired.
Lockyer opted to trigger a relegation release clause the following summer and joined the Hatters.
