Charlton Athletic v Swansea u21 team news: Maynard-Brewer makes Addicks debut

Goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer makes his Charlton debut this evening in the EFL Trophy tie with Swansea u21s.

Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu gets his first ever Addicks start, and Billy Clarke continues his return to action after eleven months out injured as he features from the off as well.

19-year-old Australian Maynard-Brewer starts between the sticks for a much-changed Addicks side, who only need a draw this evening to guarantee a path through to round two of the competition.

Sarpong-Wiredu, who made his debut when came on as a substitute during the EFL Cup loss at Milton Keynes in August, will be joined in the back-line by Kennth Yao, Ryan Blumberg and left-back Jamie Mascoll, who scored earlier on in this competition against AFC Wimbledon at The Valley.

Clarke will operate at the base of the midfield diamond, as he did when he came on during Sunday’s FA Cup draw at Mansfield. Mark Marshall and Albie Morgan are in the centre of the midfield, with Tariqe Fosu just behind the front-two.

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild partners Nicky Ajose up-top.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer, Sarpong-Wiredu, Blumberg, Mascoll, Clarke, Marshall, Morgan, Fosu, Hackett-Fairchild, Ajose. Subs: Osaghae, Maloney, Dempsey, Stevenson, Anderson, Carey, Zemura.
