Charlton boss Holden asked about transfer interest in Ipswich midfielder El Mizouni and Cheltenham striker May

Charlton Athletic manager Dean Holden has refused to be drawn on transfer interest in Ipswich midfielder Idris El Mizouni and Cheltenham Town striker Alfie May.

The Addicks are keen on a loan deal for French-born Mizouni, 22, who is coming off an excellent campaign on loan for last season’s League Two champions Leyton Orient.

The East Anglian Daily Times reported that Charlton, Derby and Wycombe all want El Mizouni.

Asked about the player following the Addicks’ 4-0 friendly win at Welling yesterday, Holden responded to the South London Press: “Did they officially comment on that, as a club? Of course you’re not going to expect me to talk about other clubs’ players, are you?

“But there are good conversations ongoing with players you believe have got a profile, in terms of mobility, that can help us next season.”

Charlton also retain an interest in May, who is understood to be keen on a switch to the SE7 outfit. Gillingham have made their own move for the 29-year-old, who scored 22 goals in 46 appearances.

“I can’t talk about these players – it’s disrespectful,” said Holden. “I’d hate to come away from here and see other managers have spoken about one of our players. I think that’s disrespectful. It’s the wrong thing to do. It just adds to the hype. We’re working very diligently and quietly in the background.”

El Mizouni did not feature in Ipswich’s opening pre-season friendly yesterday, a 6-0 win over Felixstowe & Walton United.

Manager Kieran McKenna told the EADT: “Idris is coming off a really good season (at Leyton Orient) and is looking at his options.

“We’ve communicated with him to say that if the right loan move is available we would like to keep him playing because he’s got such good momentum from last year.

“It’s now about what the right move is for Idris and the club. He’s in communication with a few clubs.

“He’s been at the training ground this week training, but his main focus at the moment, rightly so, is about securing what’s going to be his right move this summer. Hopefully that will be sorted in the not so distant future.”
