Charlton boss Lee Bowyer welcomes “pressure” of having fans back at Valley next week

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer says any amount of fans at games will make a difference to his players – with 2,000 set to be allowed in for Wednesday’s home fixture against Milton Keynes.

The Addicks successfully piloted 1,000 supporters at the Doncaster match in September before the government tightened restrictions due to a spike in Covid-19 cases in the country.

But a small amount of fans will be allowed into fixtures taking place in tier one and tier two areas from December 2, when the latest lockdown measures are eased again.

Bowyer would love a packed Valley but added: “Whatever numbers it is, we need fans – it’s just dead out there.

“It will bring a bit of pressure but it’s a bit of welcome pressure. You need some noise in there and our fans are great at that.

“Like I’ve said before, two years ago [when the club won promotion] they were great for us.

“They will make a big difference to us.”

Supporters will be able to sit in the West Lower, Covered End Lower or East Stand for Wednesday’s game.

The club has 4,861 season-ticket holders for the 2020-21 season. They will run a ballot to determine who will gain entry to Wednesday’s game, which now kicks off at 7.45pm
