Charlton defender up for League One award

Charlton Athletic defender Macaulay Gillesphey has been nominated for League One’s Player of the Month award for March.

The former Plymouth centre-back picks up four clean sheets and three goal contributions for Nathan Jones’ side.

Gillesphey, 29, has featured 40 times this season and played a key role in helping the Addicks in their fight for League One promotion.

He scored last month against Leyton Orient and Barnsley, also picking up an assist in the 2-1 win against Wigan.

Gillesphey is up against Blackpool striker Ashley Fletcher, who netted five goals in seven games.

Lincoln City’s Jovon Makama and Wrexham’s Arthur Okonkwo are also up for the award.

The judging panel for the Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, EFL chief executive Trevor Birch and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.

All winners will be announced on Friday, April 11.
