Charlton forward called up to Sierra Leone national team

Charlton Athletic forward Daniel Kanu has been named in the Sierra Leone squad for their June World Cup qualifiers.

The 19-year-old made his international debut for the Leone Stars in November 2023 – coming on as a second-half substitute for ex-Addicks winger Sullay Kaikai.

They are currently fourth in Group A, with Guinea-Bissau, Burkina Faso and Egypt all ahead after two games played.

Sierra Leone and Kanu are taking on Djibouti and Burkina Faso during the upcoming international break.

Ex-QPR defender Steven Caulker, former Derby centre-back Curtis Davies, Bristol Rovers midfielder Kamil Conteh and Kaikai have also all been named in the squad alongside Kanu.

Kanu made 30 League One appearances last season for Charlton, scoring six goals and spending part of the season on loan at Southend in the National League.

He committed his future to Charlton in February by signing a new long-term contract until 2027.
