Charlton key attacker over ‘knock’ as he starts – and scores – in EFL Trophy win over Sutton United

Corey Blackett-Taylor was flagged as an injury doubt going into Charlton’s EFL Trophy tie against Sutton United last night but ended up starting and scoring.

The 26-year-old winger bagged his sixth goal of the campaign.

He failed to convert a penalty, his attempt striking the post, after Tyreece Campbell was fouled inside the box.

Charlton won 3-0 against their League Two opposition to progress into the next round.

Blackett-Taylor had made way at the interval in the 6-1 FA Cup victory over Cray Valley PM last midweek with head coach Michael Appleton revealing ahead of the Sutton tie that he was carrying a knock.

Asked if the attacker’s injury niggle was behind him, Appleton said: “Yeah, so he trained the last couple of days. He trained Sunday and he trained Monday – felt fine. Because the game was five or six days ago, in terms of the FA Cup game, and him only playing 45 minutes, I felt it was a good opportunity for him to get some minutes again.

“He looked like he was enjoying himself. He got his goal. Alright, he missed a penalty but he has massively contributed to another good win and result.”

Blackett-Taylor is out of contract at the end of June. He has been an ever-present starter in League One for Charlton.
