Charlton loanee released after returning to parent club

Charlton loanee Matt Penney has been released by Ipswich Town following their promotion to the Championship.

The 25-year-old joined the Addicks in the January transfer window but only made five appearances under Dean Holden in the second half of the season.

Penney spent the first half of the season on loan at Scottish Premiership side Motherwell, picking up one assist in 16 appearances in the league.

Sheffield Wednesday academy product Penney was out of contract at the end of this campaign.

Penney joined Ipswich in 2021 and made 26 appearances at Portman Road.

Kieran McKenna’s side finished second in League One, three points behind league winners Plymouth.

The Tractor Boys have also released Joel Coleman, Richard Keogh and Kane Vincent-Young.
