Charlton manager Lee Bowyer provides update on Marcus Maddison’s fitness

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

Lee Bowyer says that Marcus Maddison hasn’t trained over the last few days due to a number of reasons.

The flamboyant midfielder picked up a knock during the 2-0 home defeat against Accrington just over two weeks ago.

“Marcus has had a few days off because he said he was ill,” explained the Charlton manager.

“Then, someone he knew had Covid. And obviously he had that ankle injury, didn’t he. So, Marcus Maddison is not training.

“I’ve not seen him for a few days. I think I saw him yesterday from a distance with the fitness people, ticking boxes.

“Ticking the box to see if he could start training again. But he’s not been in and around us for a few days now.”

The Addicks boss also revealed that Conor Washington picked up a calf strain during the 1-0 win at Milton Keynes on Tuesday evening.

Bowyer joked: “I said to him: ‘You run around too much!’ He’s hurt his calf, I don’t know to what extent or anything but he’s hurt his calf.”

  • I do have my doubts about Madison. All the hype last season and this one about his attitude has always concerned me. I cannot doubt his known ability and I can only hope that LB and SG haven’t got this player wrong, they are usually very shrewd with their selections for the players they want. At his best in this division, he could be a great asset, but his mental attitude ??? Not sure.
