Charlton missing three first-teamers for Swansea City game – and defender’s fitness being monitored

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Charlton Athletic will be without Tomer Hemed, Beram Kayal and Lyle Taylor for tomorrow night’s home game against Swansea City.

Hemed sat out Saturday’s 1-0 win over Leeds United with a thigh strain. Replacement Macauley Bonne claimed the goal, even though replays appeared to show Stuart Dallas getting the final touch.

Kayal has hardly kicked a ball competitively since arriving on loan from Brighton in August and has a groin complaint.

Top-scorer Taylor is likely to be out until November with knee ligament damage.

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer said: “Tomer is going to be a couple of weeks and so is Beram – he has had to have an injection and we think that is going to be a couple of weeks.”

Left-back Ben Purrington has been playing on with a calf niggle.

“Last week he trained more,” said Bowyer. “He felt a bit better than the Saturday before that. For the Wigan game he didn’t train Monday-Thursday, he only trained on the Friday.

“Last week he trained Tuesday and Thursday and was a bit sore on the Friday. He didn’t do anything on Monday, he just stayed inside doing other work.

“We’ll have to see if he trains on Tuesday. He can’t just turn up Wednesday and play. He needs to run around before that.

“He is doing well to get through it for us.”
