Charlton’s Erhun Oztumer makes Bristol Rovers loan move

Charlton Athletic have allowed Erhun Oztumer to join Bristol Rovers on loan.

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder has struggled to make an impact since signing on a free transfer in August 2019.

The former Dulwich Hamlet man, whose superb form for them led to a 2014 jump into the EFL with Peterborough United, has made 19 appearances for the Addicks. He has scored one goal and also produced one assist.

Oztumer started the last League One action against Sunderland but was withdrawn at the break. He was an unused sub for the opening two league fixtures of the season.

Bowyer said: “Ozzie has come in and it has been difficult for him to stamp down a regular position. We’ve tried him and he’s done well for us at times. He’ll go and get regular football and see what he can do once he goes out and then it might benefit us in the long run but most importantly he goes out and plays games.”

The Charlton manager says that the loan exits of Oztumer and George Lapslie, who signed for Mansfield Town earlier today, helps with freeing up funds to spend before Friday’s 5pm transfer deadline.

Bowyer said: “Because the cap is so tight, the loans free up a little bit that we can maybe use the money for elsewhere, so that is what we are looking to do.”
