Charlton’s Jack Payne ahead of EFL Cup tie at Stevenage: Underestimate the League Two side at your peril
Jack Payne has warned his Charlton teammates that any complacency ahead of tomorrow’s EFL Cup tie at League Two Stevenage could land them in trouble.
The Addicks face Steve Evans’ side at the Lamex Stadium as they look to try and put a dent in their hosts almost flawless home record.
The League Two high-flyers have won 10 out of their 11 home games in all competitions this season and Payne is expecting a tricky contest.
He said: “Any Steve Evans side is a massive test. He’s got them right at the top end of the league. It will be really difficult. I know a few of their players and they’re really good players.
“It will be a massive test, especially at their place. If anyone thinks we’re going to go there and get an easy ride – there’s no chance. It’s going to be a really tough game.
“It’s one we’ve got to rise to the challenge of and hopefully we can get through because chances are, if we do, we’ll draw a Premier League team.
“It’s always a nice occasion when you get a Premier League team, it’s something that excites players and you look forward to. But more than anything, we want to win every game.
“Stevenage will be a different test to what we’ve had previously but one we have to step up to. It will be a really difficult challenge but hopefully one we can rise above.”
