Charlton’s Jes Rak-Sakyi backs team-mate to step up to the plate during Corey Blackett-Taylor’s absence

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is confident Tyreece Campbell will be able to step up to the plate during Corey Blackett-Taylor’s enforced absence.

Blackett-Taylor is set to be out for up to eight weeks with a hamstring problem. His spell in the treatment room should open an opportunity for Campbell to build upon the six league starts he has already achieved this season.

Rak-Sakyi and Campbell operated on either side of Miles Leaburn during Saturday’s 2-1 win at Cambridge and the Crystal Palace loanee reckons his 19-year-old team-mate will be able to plug the gap in the Addicks side.

“We’re all disappointed that Corey is out with injury because he’s been a key part of us this season,” Rak-Sakyi said.

“Tyreece is a young lad. He’s really good. He will do well and step up. Tyreece is a good friend of mine. He’s a great player. When he’s on the ball he’s a nightmare for defenders.

“He’s been building confidence and playing really well. Hopefully he can kick on and continue doing what he’s doing.

“As much as I can, even though I’m young myself, I try to speak to him as much as possible and give him confidence. He’s a great lad and a good player. It’s just the belief to have in himself.”

Rak-Sakyi grabbed his fifth assist of the campaign when he set up Miles Leaburn for the opening goal at the Abbey, before bagging his 10th goal with a neat finish from Albie Morgan’s free-kick.

He said: “We knew it was going to be a tough game. We wanted to add another winning performance after Tuesday’s game [at Morecambe]. I’m happy the team got the three points today.

“Miles is a great player. I’ve known him for a long time from back at Chelsea. I know what he could bring. We’re working on runs in behind so that’s what I did today. Miles was in the box, I found him, and he scored.

“I didn’t even know where I was meant to be on the attacking set-pieces. But I went to where I thought the ball was going to land. It was a good ball from Albie, and I made good contact with it. I’m not sure where I was meant to be, but I went there and scored.”

The Addicks have now won back-to-back games after going five without victory.

“We can’t get too high or too low,” added Rak-Sakyi.

“We know the players we had in the changing room could turn things around quickly. We’re happy to get the three points for the fans because they deserve it.”
