Chelsea set to name Lampard as Potter’s replacement until the end of the season

Chelsea are set to appoint Frank Lampard as interim boss until the end of the season as they search for a long-term replacement for Graham Potter.

Lampard – who was replaced by Thomas Tuchel – was sacked by Chelsea in January 2021, just 18 months into his tenure at Stamford Bridge.

The 44-year-old is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer. He led Chelsea to an FA Cup final in his first season in charge and secured qualification for the Champions League.

Potter was sacked last Sunday after his side lost 2-0 to Aston Villa. Bruno Saltor took charge of the goalless draw with Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Lampard led Everton to Premier League safety last season but was sacked midway through this campaign and replaced by Sean Dyche.

Chelsea are 11th in the league table – 14 points from the Champions League spots.

They play Real Madrid in the quarter-final of the Champions League on Wednesday.
